DR FRANK LIPMAN
Functional medicine determines how and why illness occurs and restores health by addressing the root cause of disease for each individual.
By taking a detailed and full history, using your story to create a timeline and doing appropriate diagnostic tests you work together with your practitioner to address the underlying causes of disease, reduce or eliminate symptoms and promote optimal health.
Functional medicine uses an individual, patient-centered, science-based approach to healthcare. It requires a detailed understanding of each patient’s genetic, biochemical, and lifestyle factors and uses that data to create a personalised treatment plan. It uses recent scientific evidence and research to help guide decisions and by working together with your practitioner in partnership you can achieve positive results.
Why try functional medicine?
Functional medicine is the future of conventional medicine which has become diagnosis obsessed and poorly equipped to deal with the increase in long term, complex medical conditions. By identifying the root causes of disease and viewing the body as one complete system, not a collection of individual organs and areas, you treat the whole person.
There is unfortunately a huge gap in time between research and changing the way doctors practice. This is average 15 years but can be up to 50 years. By staying up to date with training and research doctors who practice functional medicine stay ahead of the medical system and provide high quality care for their patients.
DR MARK HYMAN
Dr Jess has been using lifestyle medicine in her practice for 15 years alongside her other natural therapies but went on to complete the extensive functional medicine practitioner training with the IFM (Institute for Functional Medicine) certifying in December 2020 after passing their rigorous exam process. On becoming an IFM practitioner she joins only a handful of fully qualified functional medicine practitioners in the UK. The IFM provides excellent ongoing training from experts in their fields, in order to stay up to date with current evidence and research in functional medicine and provide the best care for patients.
Functional medicine training includes in depth evidence based training in epigenetics, the gut microbiome, hormone balance, allergies and intolerances, extended lab testing and understanding of cholesterol and metabolic risk factors, individualised nutrition and diet and toxin assessment and exposure.
Dr Jess works closely alongside Katy, a registered and qualified Functional Medicine health coach to bring a personal and empowered approach to health for all her patients. On booking your first appointment with Dr Jess follow up with Katy is included which ensures you have a fully supported journey to health. You can also book in with Katy independently to support your health and wellness goals, learn more about health coaching here.
