Dr Jess says: Having been brought up with homeopathy I trained as a homeopath at the Lakeland College of Homeopathy and have seen the results of homeopathy first hand with my patients and myself for the last 20 years. There has been a significant campaign against homeopathy in both the media and by many public figures, which saddens me, as it has made it harder to access this safe and beautiful therapy. Even for those who are unsure of its efficacy, the worst possible outcome is that homeopathy is ineffective, as unlike many medications, it is safe for everyone (including babies and in pregnancy). I believe there there is a reason it has remained popular throughout the centuries and therefore it may be worth trying it and seeing if you see a difference…that is how many skeptics changed their mind!

Dr Jess has integrated homeopathic remedies into her larger, integrative medicine approach to treating patients, where she strives to find the best possible patient outcomes, using tools that include homoeopathy, Chinese medicine, herbal medicine, functional medicine and much more. She is a registered member of the Alliance of Homeopaths. For more information on Homeopathy visit

Homeopathy is a safe and natural way to bring the body back into balance. It is the second most widely used system of medicine in the world, successful in treating a wide range of conditions by looking at the whole person and their individual symptoms and traits. It works on an energetic level to stimulate your body’s natural ability to heal.

Homeopathy is based on the principle that ‘like treats like’. Illnesses are treated with a *medicine that could produce similar symptoms. For example, onion can cause streaming eyes and nose, if these symptoms are present in a cold then the homoeopath may prescribe the remedy Allium cepa made from an onion. *Any active ingredients are prescribed in a diluted form, avoiding toxicity and making homeopathic remedies very safe in their interactions with other medications and suitable for use by pregnant women and children.

Homeopaths take a detailed patient history, matching any symptoms to a specific homeopathic remedy, before prescribing tablets to treat the condition. By matching the remedy not just to the symptoms, but to the whole person, these natural remedies can improve your health on every level.

Homeopathy was founded by Dr Samuel Hahnemann (1755-1843) who, whilst translating medical texts, developed the law of similars – that a substance that causes certain symptoms in a healthy individual can be used to cure those specific symptoms occurring in disease.

With a background in chemistry and practising medicine, he became unhappy with the dangers and side effects of current medical treatments. This led him to test his theory on himself and a group of volunteers by testing over 100 substances at increasing dilutions and recording the effects. Not only did he find that the toxicity and side effects were reduced, but that the substance actually increased in strength as it was diluted.

Research supports it’s safety and many patients love it…

Highly diluted substances have been shown to exert an effect in many reproducible studies. Bacteria react to ultra-diluted chemicals and white blood cells react to ultra-diluted histamine (click here to read further about the scientific evidence).

There are positive results from randomised clinical trials for the homeopathic treatment of: allergies, upper respiratory tract infections, influenza, diarrhoea, rheumatic disease, fibromyalgia, osteoarthritis, sinusitis, vertigo and seasonal allergic rhinitis (hay fever).

Over 70% of patients treated at Bristol and London homeopathic hospitals reported positive health changes at follow up, after homeopathic treatment for chronic medical complaints. There is far more case-based and reported evidence from homoeopaths and their patients.
